About Baby Showers
Not much is known about the origin of baby showers, however, it's a
tradition that took off after World War II in North America.
The main focus of the baby shower is the giving of presents to the
mother to be, and to celebrate the impending arrival of the baby.
Traditionally, the baby shower only occurred for the first-born, as the
presents were thought to be enough to be handed down to other children.
However, these days people often have more than one.
It's been the tradition for women-only to attend baby showers,
which makes sense in a way, because men get tired of the baby talk
easily!
What Actually Happens at a Baby Shower?
- Female friends and female family members are invited to attend
the baby shower
- They bring presents that will help the expectant mother for when
the baby is born
- Party food and nibblies are available during the party
- Usually a number of baby shower games are played - but how much
focus is placed on this depends on the preference of the mum to be,
or the person who is running the party
- At the end of the party, the mum-to-be opens the presents in
front of everyone
